International Exchange Programs

International exchange with over 300 students every year

Based on the principles of “Language Power”, “Communication Power”, and “Human Power”, Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies constantly focuses on international exchange as a fundamental element of education.

Since beginning its first study abroad program in 1985, NUFS has developed a proud tradition of international exchange with partner universities around the world. Now, the program has expanded to the point that one of every three NUFS students is sent abroad and 300 international students are received at NUFS each year.

Students from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, China, Taiwan, Korea, and other countries are currently studying at the university. To help support these students in their pursuit of “Language Power,” “Communication Power,” and “Human Power,” the university offers conversation partners, volunteer opportunities, and other venues for international exchange. International exchange at NUFS is for not only for students leaving Japan to go abroad but also for those arriving at the university to further their education in Japan.

Study Abroad : The world is your campus!

Curiosity + Adventure + Knowledge = Study Abroad

3 Reasons to Study Abroad

Inquisitiveness – Yes, you can change your life!
Why are so many people so enchanted by the idea of “study abroad?” Many students would cite the chance to meet new people and experience a new culture. It is true that “Language Power” and “Human Power” are forged through studying abroad. But more than anything, study abroad is a chance to better understand yourself. By throwing yourself into an unknown culture and society, you discover the unknown “you” as well, one with a greater sense of perspective and more confidence to overcome obstacles in the future.

Adventure – Yes, you can jump into a new culture!
Going to a new, unknown country is certainly an adventure, and it may feel frightening. But there is no need to worry, as Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies will help you along the way. Keeping in close contact with your home university, NUFS will support you from your earliest preparations to your safe and sound return home, freeing you to embark on new adventures in class, at your home stay or dormitory, on field trips, and during free time with new friends in Nagasaki.

Knowledge – Yes, you can learn a lot and graduate!
All outgoing study abroad at NUFS is to partner universities, guaranteeing reliably structured classes and extracurricular activities to help you acquire “Language Power” and “Communication Power” along with knowledge relevant to your field of study. In addition, credits earned at partner universities are counted as NUFS credits, allowing even students who spend a full academic year abroad to graduate from NUFS in four years.
